What a beautiful book. I received it when I was a child as a Christmas gift in the early 70's. Even though it was misplaced for many years, I never forgot it. I purchased it this year for my 7 year old niece and she too is captivated by the imagery. There are dozens of quirky silhouette portraits of characters whose humanity is instantly recognizable. The text is pleasant, but it would take Shakespeare to measure up to the illustrations of this rendering of Sleeping Beauty. Rather old fashioned language makes it quite a challenge for a younger or less skilled reader, but it is a good book to read at bedtime in installments and the illustrations by Rackham are enchanting.

The Sleeping Beauty C S Evans 9781466265622 Books Reviews
I read the version of this story and i have to deduct one star for occasional weird formatting but otherwise it was a great read. It was funnier than I thought. The humor was witty and reminded me slightly of Diana Wynne Jones. Fairy tales often have a certain way about them and this is no different. I thought this story had a better effort than many others. It was also detailed and atmospheric. Highly recommend for light reading.
I would tell my famliy the greatest parts of the story ,I just love a good story . Don,t you too?
I bought this book for my newest niece, as my sister and I grew up with this book. We both have good memories reading this book, and she was so happy to have it for her little girl.
Nice story, some minor changes from the original, happy ending. What more could you want for your kids, or you?!
Althugh the version did not have any illustrations, the story itself was beautifully written. The language is not dumbed down for children. And it is a highly moral talem emphasizing virtue over beauty. The writing is lively and slyly humorous. Grown ups will not get tired of reading this first-rate classic to their children.
The Sleeping Beauty is a classic fairytale, one everyone should read.
There are some odd formatting errors in this edition though. There are headings stuck in random bits of the text, I think they might be the titles of missing illustrations? Also on some pages the text condenses into a single, narrow column for no apparent reason. But, hey, it was free...
This fairy tale, with a happy ending, inspired the Disney movie, titled "Sleeping Beauty." I also really enjoyed the ballet of the same name. In the Disney movie, the fairies were named Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. From them, she received the gifts of beauty and song. Just like in the original fairy tale, Aurora awoke from her sleep with True Love's Kiss.
